| I agree, that is what the show is about. But I see much more how it can also be about coming out (actually a big part of why I came out when I did, very late in the game comparatively, was because I was tired of not connecting fully with someone and of not giving myself the opportunity to, and the fear I'd die without having done that...)... going through the journey of trying to understand why you're not like your friends or how society said you should be/feel, and why things aren't clicking no matter how many girls you date or try sex with, or how many types, until finally coming to the desperate conclusion that you want to be fully vulnerable and connect completely with someone... it all works for coming out). It makes much more sense that way than how this production adds that it is about the fear and pressure of your biological clock running out and your inability to find a partner before your natural ability to have a child runs out. (the 4th is Michael Bennett, who I suppose can actually be considered bi, and yes the 3rd is Hal Prince who is a confirmed homosexual in his private life, or at least bi leaning *very* heavily on the same-sex side of his duality, and I'm frankly quite tired of the Broadway community and those who discuss it publicly speaking about him as if he were straight because he had a wife and kids. He was one of the most influential and powerful and brilliant people shaping the Broadway musical from the 1950s to the 1990s and I think people who care should know he was not straight). |
