It's true when we look at the main cast of speakers and singers, and the filmmakers have acknowledged that it is true, and it's also an incredible movie

And from the moment the movie dropped, I've been saying how incredible a film it is, while also acknowledging that when we look at the characters who are front and center, as in the ones who do the singing and the speaking for most of the movie, there are very few Afro-Latinx and darker-skinned Latinx relative to the population of Washington Heights. Yes, there are more of them in the background, but that is not the right answer.

This doesn't have to be a binary. A film can be extraordinary and flawed. And people should be able to critique those flaws without this being turned into trashing the movie... unfortunately, the media loves to spin these conversations into a place of outrage, highlighting the more militant voices and fueling a sense of constant conflict around culture.
