| Sure... that's possible. And so is what I said, because I heard it from them, the people I know. Also I think it's pretty sad to not support or see a movie with an all latinx cast, playing all latinx characters, in a movie centering that, and written by latinx writers about a neighborhood he grew up in, and directed by an Asian director (both of whom famously made huge hit things people loved) because it "wasn't representing the neighborhood correctly" enough in the leading cast. I can guarantee none of the people I'm talking about have ever stepped foot in that neighborhood anyway -- not that that means they shouldn't want it accurately represented in a movie, but come on... this is what justifies a boycott of the kind of movie we rarely get even still? I think you're pretty harsh on this movie if you think it deserved to be boycotted for the not dark enough skin casting choices of the 100% latinx cast. And I also am curious why it's okay for people criticizing the movie in this way to do what amounts to a form of erasure of one of the lead actor's actually being Afro-Latina while simultaneously saying there are no Afro-Latinx actors in the cast. But I don't think we're gonna get very far here. |
