I do agree with you about my friends in question. But I also think this is how quite a lot of people right now make choices about what to engage with in culture and what opinions to have.
And as for what you said, I'll just paste what you said that I guess got us going on this path:
"There's a lot to be proud of when it comes to "In the Heights", but that doesn't change the fact that they depicted a version of Washington Heights that was almost entirely light-skinned, non-African Latinx people." Neither is true... they depicted the main characters in *this story* in Washington Heights as being almost entirely light-skinned latinx and black people, with one light-skinned African Latina lead character, and many dark-skinned and Afro-latinx people depicted in the community but not participating in the scenes/story with dialogue/lyrics. While I'm sure this sounds like semantics, I don't think it is.
But I think we agree on the facts, and not quite on how to present them.
