Exactly. I'm not opposed of a female Bobbie with a gender-switching in the cast and play that it *thoroughly thought out*, which this one was not. I'm in support of updating it to today, if a *thoughtful review of the text* is done and the appropriate changes made... which was not done here.

I went into the London production very excited and open to whatever it was and assuming it would be good. What I saw was not all that good, and didn't work.

My favorite production of the show that I've seen is Sam Mendes' Donmar revival that was filmed for BBC broadcast... that updated it, as did Doyle's, juuuust barely in a time frame when "clutching a copy of Life" still made sense.

And the original production of this show has *never* been replicated in my lifetime nor has it or a replication been filmed, so unlike even Follies which at least there's 65 min of footage of the original to watch and a memoir about the original production to read and become a staunch originalist about... Company exists only in photos and the cast recording. And I think Marry Me A Little is a necessary addition that improvs the show, so I can't be an originalist with this show anyway.

I don't care that Sondheim was so involved in this "revisal" ... all the more disappointing that he was and was so enthusiastic about it.
