| One might compare the Company situation to Girl from the North Country, which opened the first week of March 2020, and in terms of initial rehearsal/prep was only a month ahead of Company at the shutdown. Since the 2021 relaunch, they've apparently had on-going issues with illness -- I saw Winningham's understudy this week, who was masterfully prepared, along with another character's cover, equally brilliant -- and they keep going. Two productions with different origin stories, but one has not managed well and one seemingly has. Both shows are complex, Girl is music-heavy with on-stage diegetic performances, pianos and drums played by singing actors Doyle-style, etc., and they seem to have the full company in the house 8 times a week, highly prepared. I was mightily impressed with the level of commitment. Something very right is going on in that production. |
