I think “limited entertainment “ is in the eye of the beholder. I have no interest in SIX, but if someone else exits the theater exhilarated, that’s wonderful for them. I also think “astronomical prices” are relative.

I see the glass as half-full. I usually can only travel to the city once a year. I plan my trip cautiously, based on what I like, whether those choices meet the taste of others or not. I know what good seats will cost, and budget accordingly. I usually love, or at least like, everything I see. Then I look forward to the next trip.

I have seen magnificent performances, and those that were underwhelming. I am one of those “tourists” who will sometimes see a show just because a Hollywood or TV name attracted me (as long as the show does, too). That doesn’t mean some aren’t excellent on stage.

I love this board and visit it daily, but sometimes I feel like there is so much judgment about the show selections of others, or their ability to pay full price. I work very hard for my money, and while I am not rich by any means, I can pay full price for good seats at a clip of four-five shows a year. I think of it as supporting the theatre community, and while the cynics see it as lining the pickets of rich producers, that keeps shows onstage.

In May of 2022, I am looking forward to American Buffalo, Funny Girl, Tina, Take Me Out, and one TBD. (Granted, I didn’t choose Tina.) If others think those aren’t worth their money, they shouldn’t go see them.

I will love, or at least like, them.

While I appreciate the detail I read here, sometimes it’s as simple as: Buy a ticket, see a show, be happy.
