Which ones are you thinking of that are constantly revived?
I think the question with revivals is whether we are seeing nostalgia productions that play to people with fond memories or associations with the original, as in the case of “Hello, Dolly!”, which serve as a last hurrah of sorts for the show.
The three that I mentioned are revived frequently (at least once each decade), and two of them have shown that they can be just as reasonant when their theatricality is reimagined for contemporary audience. That’s my benchmark for longevity; what’s yours? |
