| The target audience is people who want to see an adventurous, heartbreaking story about growing up Black and gay in America, and the commercial viability is likely not the primary factor in bringing the show to Broadway. This show is coming to this stage because it deserves that platform, and if they win the Tony - which I'd say they have a reasonable chance of doing - they could have a healthy run. I agree with you that it's an unlikely Broadway hit, but at the same time, if all you see in this beautiful, deeply truthful musical is "Book of Mormon profanity", I think the show simply didn't work for you. |
