Besides her Golden Globe and Critics' Choice nominations, Ariana DeBose has been picking up Best Supporting Actress wins from the critics groups for Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas, L.A., Phoenix and Portland. For now, I'd call her the front-runner in her category. One factor that might complicate things for her, is if her ''West Side Story'' co-star Rita Moreno, who won the Oscar for playing Anita in the 1961 movie, also gets nominated alongside her at the SAG Awards or the Oscars. That might cause a split vote, allowing or helping another contender to win.
Meantime, the cast of ''West Side Story'' is up for Best Ensemble at Critics' Choice, an honor I hope will be repeated at the SAG Awards. |
