| I've posted similar sentiments elsewhere: the hard core Broadway audience isn't seeking Music Man or Six tickets. We're often making our decisions 48 hours before we attend. We seek discounts, the TKTS booth. We need reassurance that shows will be on, and that our trips from our homes -- in the boros or tristate area -- are worthwhile. Whenever Broadway is framed solely in terms of the mega hits, the rest of us are overlooked. Jagged Little Pill -- and I'm no big fan of the show -- is one of those pieces that needs word of mouth among core members of the 8-show-a-week loyalists. People who take their teens on weekends. Who decide to try a Wednesday matinee on Monday night. It's not a show that easily invites an advance. When we lose the Jagged Little Pills, it's especially sad. And again, it's not even a piece I promote (though I love "Smiling"). A dark day among many. |
