Yes it is dropping in SA, but they’ve had three strong waves of covid previously so there is a guess that 80% of SA has been exposed to covid previously making omicron not as deadly when reexposure occurs. That might not be the same in US that has higher vac rates but maybe overall less protection with larger percentage either not vac or covid recovered.
