Why does Mrs. Lovett tell Sweeney the room over her pie shop is haunted?
Posted by: toros 07:25 am EST 12/22/21

Shortly after Sweeney arrives at Mrs. Lovett's, he asks why she hasn't rented out the room over her shop, if times are so hard. She says, "No one will go near it. People think it's haunted." But nothing has really happened up there - yet. What is she referring to that would force her to keep the room empty for so long, when she's in desperate need of money. In fact, in the Pirelli scene, she tells a man who asks if Todd has an establishment of his own, "He certainly does - Sweeney Todd's Tonsorial Parlor, right above my meat pie shop."
