I do not favor more exposition, not sure where you get that, but I was wondering why she doesn't give some plausible reason, if she has one, like "I don't trust anyone in this town." But since she mentions that something horrible happened, my question was, does she say this because she recognized Sweeney. And is the suggestion that she's not rented out the room, despite her financial harships, because she's been saving it for him. I don't think expositional expediency is a good reason. Is it possible that it's a mistake?
