| The "petition" was created by some sort of anonymous person or entity that bravely identifies his/her/itself as: "Support Understudies." St. Martin made an ungainly, ignorant comment and apologized. Nothing she said or says affects "understudies" or the "support" or employment or financial recompense or anything at all regarding understudies, standbys or swings. Her comment affects absolutely nothing at all in the real world, other than to generate a lot of dramatic scarf-tossing about the neck by the latest of that most fashionable amorphous trendy self-appointed, the Professionally Aggrieved. Get a grip, people. The industry has a lot more to worry about, and to deal with in the most self-preserving, constructive way possible, than any one person's comments about anything. And the industry, and its vastly complicated efforts to reopen after a solid year and a half, is far bigger than one person – even the head of the Broadway League, only one component of the business. All this tossing around of her $500,000 salary (assuming that's accurate) is the height of ignorance and lack of perspective, considering that amount is .00002 of the industry's local annual worth. |
