Harvey was one of the last true troopers. He started very young, and was able to dance in "The Pajama Game" & "West Side Story" movies, ( he was a huge fan of Doris Day in his youth), right off the bat. Harvey loved all of the traditions of the theatre. He always tried to attend the Gypsy Robe Ceremonies on opening nights. Knowing him for many years, I never felt Harvey really appreciated his talents. You could get him to talk about his experiences, but he never boasted. I am so lucky to have known this very talented man.

I saw him perform many times and was thrilled once when I got to chat briefly with him. This is very sad news.

I doubt that he was only 80 if he danced in The Pajama Game on film. IMDB also credits him as having danced in Silk Stockings in 1957. He would have been 16 when the films were released. That just doesn't sound right.

I may be wrong about this. According to BroadwayWorld.com, he did indeed make his Broadway debut at 16 in New Girl In Town in 1957.

Whatever his age, a trouper in the best sense of the word. RIP.

And if he was 80, that would have made him 30 at the time of “Follies.” I don’t imagine he would’ve been much older than that to play Young Buddy, right?

True. I just did not realize he had been quite so young when he started. I would have thought he was five years older.

Ahhhh....a dear friend has spoken many times of the wonderful times he has had with Harvey Evans at the AEA Center, over lunch, etc. He sounded like such a sweet guy and mentor, and he worked with the very best. Yet another loss of one of the few links to the era which made so many of us dream.
