| i’ve been to more than 30 in the fall. but with all the shows canceled this week. It suddenly gave me a phobia to go to shows until it stabilizes. Surely doesn’t give u confidence when most of them is showing abundance of caution. The last 2 shows I went to last week. I kept hyperventilating and feeling fear while seated that it kept me from enjoying the show. My mind was on overdrive thinking show end soon so I can leave. This was during Music Man first preview too. Sigh. and this week with lots of shows being offered for free. it’s tempting to go. what to do? |

| Went twice last week and all went well. Slave Play and Flying Over Sunset were smooth sailing because of extra trained and informed staffing. Vaccinated cards checked against ID and wearing N95 face mask inside theatres. Subway in and out of Queens with mask wearing went well. | |

| I think the bottom line is that we have to respect our own fears. It's clear that you were not comfortable, and that should be the primary determinant. I have not had the same issue, and I am comfortable that, as others have said, a mask of the N95/KN95 types is, for me, an adequate safeguard. As others have also noted, what's happening to actors is a different issue altogether. In fact, acting has suddenly become one of the least safe occupations in the city because you can't wear a mask and do your job. I have come to the conclusion that we need to shut it down until we get over the peak of omicron. Producers have other motivations (and ultimately I think those motivations will result in a hiatus, as I have written elsewhere), but I also wonder if we won't otherwise see AEA getting proactive. But my advice to you based on what you write is to pay as much attention to your mental health as your physical health. | |

| I think we’ve seen from the St. Martin/Shindle back and forth that AEA doesn’t have that much power when it comes to impacting the business model, so not sure how proactive they can get. | |

| They "could" get very proactive, but it's complicated and they won't. AEA could (easily) shut everything down by declaring it an unsafe working condition, but their members are divided on that because many/most want/need to earn their pay. So they won't use the nuclear option. As I have said elsewhere, if there is a hiatus (and it is really the only rational choice imo), it will be because, with the (already greatly reduced) holiday audiences gone, most shows have no other way forward. (And even then, many don't.) And herein lies the Leagues St. Martin problem, because any hope for a negotiated path forward would require leadership, and we are not seeing that. | |

| I don't think we really know. Many experts are saying that anything less than a KN95 mask is a problem right now, and theatre's certainly aren't enforcing that. | |

| Do other masked crowds give you similar anxiety? I have no issues going to shows this week, but I will be avoiding restaurants or other settings where I can’t keep a mask on. It’s important to remember that the show cancellations have absolutely nothing to do with the audience and everything to do with cast members being required to isolate. Not even always because it is spreading amongst the cast (although that certainly appears to be the case in some shows). The number of folks I’ve known infected in the past two weeks continues to climb and climb - even amongst the most cautious. Avoiding this strain completely seems absolutely impossible for anyone that leaves their home or interacts with other people. |

| Very fair post. Too many people are comparing eating a full meal in a restaurant with sitting in a dark theater masked. From a contagion standpoint, the circumstances have little in common. I haven't been to a restaurant -- and then only quick meals in well-spaced interiors -- since before Thanksgiving. I attended my last show on the matinee of the 15th. I plan to go in January, but certainly measure new information on a day-to-day basis. I believe we can't really approach this Omicron wave with any fixed positions on personal boundaries with protocols. I may feel differently next week. Or tomorrow. | |

| If you and the person next you are wearing cloth masks, it's likely just as dangerous or worse than a restaurant. | |

| I’ve been happily wearing a KN95 to every show I’ve seen since broadway’s reopening. I actually find them more comfortable for multiple-hour use. | |

| I've seen no indication that the public is being infected in large numbers (or any numbers) at Broadway shows. This is an unmeasurable, unknowable statistic. There's a lot to be learned about the Omicron variant, but if anyone is experiencing anxiety or fear about it in NYC at this moment, you know what to do. Stay home and watch some quality TV. |

| The most responsible thing we can do, in terms of public health, is to stay home and mitigate the spread of this variant. ICUs in Manhattan and Queens are full, with lessened hospital staff. Let’s help each other out and have a healthy staycation. | |

| ICUs in NYC (incl manh and qns) are NOT full, and the majority of people in them are not there for covid related reasons. New York County, New York has reported having 988 staffed adult ICU beds. 747 are filled by non-COVID patients and 65 are filled by COVID patients. Overall, 812 out of 988 (82%) are filled. Queens County, New York has reported having 308 staffed adult ICU beds. 160 are filled by non-COVID patients and 35 are filled by COVID patients. Overall, 195 out of 308 (63%) are filled. We have not been advised to stay home. | |

| "Despite New York City’s COVID-19 case numbers surpassing all-time records in recent days, the latest surge has generally been manageable for local hospitals, so far." (-Gothamist, as of Dec. 22.) Intensive care capacity percentage full as of Dec. 27: Bronx County 78% Nassau County 67% Suffolk County 72% New York County 81% Kings County 84% Queens County 69% Those numbers are expected to rise, as the Omicron variant peaks, but the majority of intensive care patients are unvaccinated, or elderly with co-factors. |
