| I think the bottom line is that we have to respect our own fears. It's clear that you were not comfortable, and that should be the primary determinant. I have not had the same issue, and I am comfortable that, as others have said, a mask of the N95/KN95 types is, for me, an adequate safeguard. As others have also noted, what's happening to actors is a different issue altogether. In fact, acting has suddenly become one of the least safe occupations in the city because you can't wear a mask and do your job. I have come to the conclusion that we need to shut it down until we get over the peak of omicron. Producers have other motivations (and ultimately I think those motivations will result in a hiatus, as I have written elsewhere), but I also wonder if we won't otherwise see AEA getting proactive. But my advice to you based on what you write is to pay as much attention to your mental health as your physical health. | |

| I think we’ve seen from the St. Martin/Shindle back and forth that AEA doesn’t have that much power when it comes to impacting the business model, so not sure how proactive they can get. | |

| They "could" get very proactive, but it's complicated and they won't. AEA could (easily) shut everything down by declaring it an unsafe working condition, but their members are divided on that because many/most want/need to earn their pay. So they won't use the nuclear option. As I have said elsewhere, if there is a hiatus (and it is really the only rational choice imo), it will be because, with the (already greatly reduced) holiday audiences gone, most shows have no other way forward. (And even then, many don't.) And herein lies the Leagues St. Martin problem, because any hope for a negotiated path forward would require leadership, and we are not seeing that. | |
