| They "could" get very proactive, but it's complicated and they won't. AEA could (easily) shut everything down by declaring it an unsafe working condition, but their members are divided on that because many/most want/need to earn their pay. So they won't use the nuclear option. As I have said elsewhere, if there is a hiatus (and it is really the only rational choice imo), it will be because, with the (already greatly reduced) holiday audiences gone, most shows have no other way forward. (And even then, many don't.) And herein lies the Leagues St. Martin problem, because any hope for a negotiated path forward would require leadership, and we are not seeing that. |
