| I agree with everything you are saying. Of all the shows on Broadway right now, Six has the best shot at recouping because its running costs are low, it's popular, and IMO it's a good show. Others on this board probably disagree. However, the future is very uncertain, and no one at this point really knows anything. Broadway cast recordings, especially those released on CD, generally cost anywhere from $350,000 to $500,000 and rarely turn a profit. Over the last 25 years I would guess that Rent, The Producers, Hamilton, and possibly The Book of Mormon and In the Heights made money -- maybe a few others but I would have to do a little research before naming more shows. Six and Company already have cast albums on CD so it all depends on their productions or generous donors if they want to spend the money for a Broadway recording. That's hard to predict. The announcement of a cast album for the Caroline, Or Change revival was a very welcome and happy occurrence, just IMO. |

| But of course a new recording is never guaranteed. I still think it's a shame they never did one of the (multi Tony-winning) original Broadway Falsettos, instead just repackaging the off-Broadway recordings of each piece as a "new" double CD. Even though by that time the material had changed a good deal. It would have been nice to get an official record of that cast and those changes at the time. | |

| I'm pretty happy with the 2 off-Broadway cast recordings which were combined into a unit. As much as I love the show itself as seen on stage, I rarely listen to the show's recording, but that's just me. Nevertheless, I prefer the original set of recordings to that of the '16 revival. I thought the '19 tour of the revival was better cast and acted than the '16 Broadway version. My biggest regret is the lack of a cast recording for the Broadway or touring productions of James Joyce's The Dead. It was my favorite new musical that season and I thought the score (sung by that incredible cast) was haunting. I was told that 2 different labels were in negotiations for respectively the Broadway and tour productions, but they couldn't close the deal for either. The cast album of the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre production was an acceptable substitute, but I really miss hearing the renditions of Howes, Nixon, Brown or Prince, Ripley, Skinner, Walken or Bogardus, Spinella, and the others. |
