| Yes, she was known for her role on Howdy Doody, and also her outstanding acting and presence in the Elvis movie, "Jailhouse Rock", but Judy Tyler could really sing -- singing opposite Wagnerian soprano Helen Traubel back when Broadway shows weren't miked in "Pipe Dream". Here's some video of Tyler singing. She also died in a terrible auto accident and deserves to be remembered. It sure looks like Elvis had an impact on her in these performances, too! | |

| Okay, I'm automatically in love with any movie titled Bop Girl Goes Calypso. But, yes, Judy Tyler was very probably a major star in the making, and it's so unfortunate that it had to end for her almost before it began. | |

| my sister and I had our hearts broken when Princes Summer-Fall Winter-Spring, was kidnapped and never returned to the Howdy Doody Show. If i'd know she left for a R&H show I would not have been upset. KING AND I was my favorite fill in the summer of '56. | |

| I was rather upset when at a talkback for "Pipe Dream" at Encores that had starred Leslie Uggams (wonderful as usual), the guy from Rodgers and Hammerstein almost snidely said that the show had originally co-starred someone mainly known from Howdy Doody. Judy Tyler had a helluva voice on that "Pipe Dream" OCR, and according to my older cousin, who grew up watching "Howdy Doody" on tv and watching Elvis films, she was quite beloved by many. | |

| She is also terrific on a first season Perry Mason episode, which she apparently filmed just before her fatal car crash on the 4th of July weekend of 1957. CBS waited until the end of 1957 to air the episode, but it was one of the first that the company shot. Her performance is brassy and confident and proves, along with her singing on the Pipe Dream cast recording and her great work in Jailhouse Rock, that we would have seen and heard a lot more of and from her had she lived. | |

| Here's a treat -- the original star, Ella Logan of "Finian's Rainbow", singing "Look to the Rainbow" from that great show! It sounds as though she is singing in a higher key than on the OCR. | |

| Here's the delightful Tony-winner Pat Stanley in her audition for Jerry Lewis' film "The Ladies' Man" (which she ended up getting!). She's not singing here, though Jerry does rather delight her by singing a bit of her big number "I Love a Cop" for her. Ms. Stanley also starred on Broadway opposite Robert Redford in "Sunday in New York" in the roles taken in the film by Jane Fonda and Rod Taylor, respectively. Apparently she and co-Tony winner Russell Nype did a song from "Goldilocks" on the "Ed Sullivan Show" back when the show was on Broadway, but I haven't seen a clip of it turn up yet on the internet. There's also a video of her and a male co-star doing "Her Is" from a tour of "Pajama Game" that exists, but I currently can't find on the internet. Very charming, rather enchanting performer. | |

| I recently caught Funny Girl's original Eddie Ryan in the 1961 late-noir film Blast of Silence. He plays the singer/bongo player in the nightclub scene. He comes off a bit shrill, truth be told, but I still appreciated getting a chance to see him. | |

| I've seen some clips of him dancing from the original "Funny Girl" that pop up from time to time on YouTube, and he was quite a good song and dance man, with some very impressive dancing (and tumbling I think) skills. | |
