| Kimberly Akimbo has a wonderful score ( a less successful book I think which is odd since it was written by David Lindsay-Abaire based on his original wonderful play) and I hope it does release an album but rumor has it headed to Broadway in the Spring or Fall so we might have to wait. I loved Justin Cooley btw and wish more use was made of Victoria Clark's voice. I did thoroughly enjoy the show however despite my quibblings. As for Assassins, I admire rather than like the score but agree that a cast album is warranted. | |

| I bought tickets for my Grandson, a freshman in college, and his friend. They loved Kimberly Akimbo. My grandson said he never laughed so much at a show, and his friend said she was crying at the end. By the way, they both found WSS boring. | |

| Agree on Kimberly Akimbo (I may have fewer quibbles with the book) and Justin Cooley (he's taking time out of his freshman year of college for this, so if it transfers, I sure hope he goes with it). | |

| I should clarify my remarks about the book. I didn't think it was bad. All musicals should have books as strong as Kimberly Akimbo. I just think that compared to the original play by Lindsay-Abair, the tragedy of Kim's condition gets shorter shrift. The addition of the ensemble and a very strong ensemble it is too both in writing and performance lessens her alienation and she did not seem to be as hesitant about accepting Seth's (Jeff in the original play) attention. The ending of the non-musical truly nade me cry. This not as much. Still I adored the musical and if it does move, you can be assured that I will be there to get my tickets. And I will listen to the album if and when it happens repeatedly. So happy I got to see this. | |

| You made me want to go read the play (or re-read it? I can't remember if i read it when it was new, but if not I was very familiar with its existence). I loved the musical but I can imagine what you're saying being even more in line with what I'd want for the story. Also I have to say I think the character of the aunt got too much time to shine and steal the scenes. I think as fun as that was, it created an imbalance toward a character who really isn't all that important outside of adding comedy and a necessary if weird plot point(s). |

| Yeah, great cast, but only if they do the cast recording with the currently licensed orchestrations. Well, maybe they'll license out the new orchestrations as well. They did record the recent production of "Oklahoma" |

| There's a huge difference. The Oklahoma revival had a complete band with a true sound world concept related to the show itself. Assassins has a rhythm section with cast members adding in. | |

| I'm happy to have any recording of a score I love, and to hear the performances of a cast I won't get to see live. That being said, nothing I've heard about this production makes me think we "need" a recording of it. Unlike, say, CSC's Passion which at least had an exciting vocalist playing the challenging lead role (Kuhn as Fosca) -- though of course I was surprised that got an album since we have 2 albums of the score already (and if they were going to record it again I'd have assumed it would have been the staged concert filmed for PBS starring the famous Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald and Michael Cerveris -- though at least Kuhn got more than 2 weeks of rehearsal time for her production). Assassins isn't a vocal-show-off score, and this production is not known for giving the score the orchestration is "needed"... we already have two sensational cast albums of this show. So while I hope they record it, I would not be at all surprised if they don't. (I'm a bit surprised they didn't record the CSC Pacific Overtures simply because so many changes were made, but frankly I'm VERY glad they didn't as I found the changes terrible and poorly thought-out and the entire production was something I'd love to never see repeated... a cast album is a fast way to make it a version of the show people want to produce. But Pacific Overtures already has *three* cast recordings, including the definitive and gorgeous original. If there was to be a 4th I'd have wanted the Japanese language production that came here, so we could hear it in Japanese ... it was the basis for the Roundabout revival, which was recorded in English with the bway revival cast obviously). |

| I really enjoyed John Doyle's CSC 2013 revival of ''Passion,'' so I'm glad there's a 2-CD recording of Judy Kuhn and Ryan Silverman. Silverman made for a more forceful Giorgio, and received Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for his strong performance. But I wasn't a fan of Doyle's 2017 ''Pacific Overtures,'' which he cut down to a one-act show (and dumped ''Chrysanthemum Tea''!). However, the CSC cast sounded wonderful, and there are a couple of quick clips (like their ''Someone in a Tree'') up on YouTube. |

| This is all correct (except your take on the CSC PO which I loved)! And probably why we shouldn't and won't get a recording. There's nothing about this production that distinguishes it from previous recordings and the songs are all presented fairly straight forwardly. All that said... I thought the voices and the arrangements were QUITE lovely and I'd love to have a recording. I think it would likely be the one that I listened to most, particularly if the entire Oswald scene were recorded with the transition into Something Just Broke. |

| I'm glad for you that you loved it. I can't imagine why. Maybe I'm in the minority. But it seemed to disregard and misunderstand many things about how the show worked and why it was written the way it was to the concept as conceived the way it was. | |

| Oh gee, is Something Just Broke officially part of the show forever now? I had hoped the Roundabout revival showed why that song should be left out. |

| I would say the Roundabout production showed how beautifully the inclusion of the song can be... it was perfectly staged and sung, and felt like a seamless and necessary part of the show. Whatever one thinks of it, I am pretty sure it is optional but not required (but probably presented as part of the show with the option to remove, rather than the option to add - like, say, Our Little World). However I do think officially Sondheim and Weidman prefer it in the show. Unless I'm misremembering they've said (at least to me personally) that the text/score done at Roundabout was exactly the version they want it to be. |

| "Our Little World" is optional, but "Something Just Broke" is officially a required part of the show. Of course, one is always welcome to ask MTI if it can be cut - but I would bet they say no. "Broke" used to be optional, and included as an insert, back when the show was first licensed. (Though I think at some point, even with those older materials, it was eventually included in the book, not as an insert.) But once the Roundabout version was licensed and became the one available version, the song became a definite part of the show. |

| I have always said - I have nothing against the song itself, which I think is quite effective. My problem has always been the placement of the song. Obviously dramatically speaking it's in the only place it can go (the song itself really relates best to the Kennedy assassination in terms of "I remember where I was when I heard the news" - even if that is becoming more remote as time goes on) - but I miss the seamless transition between the Depository Scene and the start of the finale, as recorded/performed originally. But, Sondheim really wanted the song there... | |
