| They also had a really good showcase on the Kennedy Center Honors telecast this past week as part of Berry Gordy's tribute, though don't know if those Kennedy Center broadcasts translate into much in the way of ticket sales even during normal times. | |

| I thought that was terrible. Was that the actual cast? I’ve seen the Temptations and they weren’t close to the vibe of the originals. |

| I haven't seen the show, but I seem to recall the real Temptations had some great moves which had been choreographed for them but they didn't do all those splits and overly difficult choreography that these guys do. Granted, the actors nowadays are very good and work hard, but part of the secret to the Temptations, besides their great voices and songs, were that they were very cool and rather elegant and didn't seem to be working hard. They were cool, reaaaal coool. | |

| Let's assume you're right about their choreography, and based on some video I've seen on line, one link being attached, you probably are. But respectfully, so what? I don't think the point of the show (or of any similar show) is to put on a group of impersonators trying to replicate every dance step and every harmony. I think what you'd be looking to do as the director and the choreographer is to entertain the audience, to thrill them if possible, and having seen the show twice, once in DC before it opened in NY and again on Broadway, they succeeded. Both times I saw the show, people were dancing at their seats and in the aisles during curtain calls. You couldn't help but be amazed at how the cast was able to DO the moves you mention, e.g. the splits, etc. and sing at the same time. Since you haven't seen the show but seem to have appreciated the Temptations, I really recommend that you catch it on tour. | |

| Oh, I think I'd enjoy it -- I like well-done backstage musicals (or one that at least have some entertaining numbers), and I enjoy the music of the Temptations. I also know that the creative people in charge of this want to make it entertaining. But someone else on this thread (and some others) didn't like the Kennedy Center representation of the show, and it also seemed to me in other clips I've seen to be a case of a bit of trying too much. The Dreams (thinly disguised Supremes, who true didn't move much in performance) weren't doing backflips in "Dreamgirls", and that was mighty entertaining, too. Given their song repertoire and the obvious talent of the people in the show, I'm sure it's entertaining though. | |

| There’s only one review I found of the current tour production, and I linked it. I’m not sure what the Kennedy Center reference was about, cause the tour production opened last night after a COVID delay. As the ad said, “Try it, you’ll like it”. | |
