I appreciate you bending backwards not to offend, and I agree with everything you say here. The fact is, it’s often a disappointment to get an understudy for a number of reasons. Wonderful that they’ve been keeping Broadway afloat the past few weeks, but honestly, most every time I’ve seen an understudy it’s been a capable performer, but I can usually tell the special something is missing. Sometimes it might be simply a matter of not enough rehearsal time; sometimes it’s other matters, as you suggest.
I imagine many people will seek refunds for their obscenely expensive “Music Man” tickets during Jackman’s absence, and that will make them available at a more reasonable price for that week. |
