| It's been several years since I saw the off-Broadway production with Lynda Gravatt who was superb. I don't know whether I'd have called it a "great" play but I do remember finding the work less flawed than you did. I'm even wondering if the script has been worked on--and not necessarily for the better. But my one question for you is this: how can you find "Rashad is great but hard to hear?" Are you saying you're sure she's giving a great performance but the sound designer is at fault? Otherwise, I don't understand how an actor can give a great performance if she's hard to hear. |

| Because diction and projection are only 2 of the many components that go into an actor’s performance. An actor can be grounded and in the moment. They can be listening and responding believably in the scene. They can have a great grasp of the character, and portray them with layers and subtlety. They can play the intention of the scene, connect with the other actors, etc. All while having less-than-stellar diction. I also found her difficult to understand when the play began. It’s a little perplexing considering she’s the highly-experienced veteran stage actor in that cast. But I agree that her performance was otherwise very strong. And in any case, I got used to it after a while, and was able to understand her much better as the play progressed. Too bad about the whole Cosby thing. What a bizarre, misguided, harmful take. I’ve really lost all respect for her as a person since then. |

| My neighbor said the same thing about "Flying Over Sunset". She said that it was an excellent show, but it was very hard to understand the actors. Go figure. J |

| Yes, I fully understand that the sound system isn't always what it should be, especially in a big theater, especially for a musical. What I don't understand is how someone can say an actor was great if she was hard to hear. Even IF the fault was not at all the actor's, how can the result be "great?" | |
