| Does the current revival of The Music Man put Shipoopi back where it goes? The last revival moved it to the ice cream social in the park (mirroring the movie), but that placement has always bothered me. It doesn't make sense for Harold and Marian to dance the Shipoopi together BEFORE they meet at the foot bridge. Wouldn't they just walk over the footbridge together then? Or maybe detour to somewhere else now that they've met up by accident somewhere OTHER than the footbridge? This dance number makes MUCH more sense in its original placement, during Eulalie MacKecknie Shinn's rehearsal in the gym towards the beginning of Act 2. | |

| I was Marcellus in our high school production ( and scenic designer/painter) and I had a ball doing that dance number. I always love seeing it. so there. lol | |

| I had fund dancing the number when I was in the show. But I still think the number is kind of dumb…lol. But to each his own 🙂 | |

| It doesn't make sense for Harold and Marian to dance the Shipoopi together BEFORE they meet at the foot bridge. But in the original they do just that. Shipoopi is in the gym, Act II scene 1, and the footbridge is Act II scene 4. Are you sure you have the right chronology? |

| The Music Man is one of my all time favorite shows, but honestly, I'm not sure Shipoopi belongs anywhere! | |

| Personally…I would agree with this…lol. I LOVE the show and hate this number. BUT, it REALLY bothers me when the number is put in the wrong place…lol. | |

| Speaking as a musician who's done the show several times, the original dance music for "Shipoopi" is among the most fun things in the score. So I can't agree. | |

| It just goes to show that even back in the time of "The Music Man" there were dance crazes and songs that were just meant to be fun and silly and give people an excuse to let loose. Kind of like their version of "The Monster Mash" or "The Twist". Plus it gives Harold and Marian a chance to dance together and for Harold to bring a bit of "fancy" city-sophistication in his moves to the "plain" small-town folks, already used in a way in the show "Plain and Fancy". I remember loving the song and Buddy Hackett's rendition when my folks played the record when I was a kid. Plus the film has really terrific Onna White choreography, almost as good as the superb "Marian the Librarian" staging. Based on the little clip of the new production available, it looks like the choreographer is taking advantage of that music in "Shipoopi" for Hill and Marian. | |

| I understand from someone who has seen the show that SHIPOOPI does take place in the gym. The show has released an official partial clip of the production number. |
