Macbeth—movie

Surprisingly it is showing at AMC in San Fran. Usually streamed movies don’t and this is scheduled on apple this month.

I really liked this. I have to admit I’m not a fan of Shakespeare because a lot happens off stage and I get confused with names and poetic references. Like when the squire says a forest is trebbling and moving, the army is actually camouflage by holding branches. I’m not a huge fan of mcdormand but she is excellent as lady Macbeth. And Denzel does a good job as the lead. I’m glad I did see it at the theater since I actually did watch it without my gadget distractions at home. But if you are better disciplined than I, you can wait for streaming. I had little interest in seeing Daniel Craig this spring and the movies satisfies any need to see it on stage again.

I saw this on a huge screen at Alice Tully Hall in NYC last September. The cinematography was impressive. But I found the whole movie kind of deadly and pretentious. I thought having Macbeth and Lady Macbeth pretty much die off camera was a cop out. Give me Throne of Blood anyway.

They didn't even show the wood moving toward the castle (at least, not from Macbeth's perspective. There were some interesting ... choices. Not what I would have done. And why was the set apparently designed by Giorgio de Chirico?

As long as we're second-guessing Shakespeare...

1st Shakes play i saw was MACBETH with Maurice Evan and Judith Anderson on TV. It won beaucoupd'Emmys in the early 60's.I was able to follow it well enough at age 10; Though as I was typing this I wondered if it now would seen like Derek Jacobi's Shakespearean Ham appeared to Niles and Frazier Crane(for Jacobi won an Emmy for guest spot on Frazier.)

Maybe "Macbeth" was being streamed but not "The Tragedy of Macbeth" ( two different movies ).
PS: I am seeing "Macbeth" on Broadway in April. not for Daniel Craig but for Ruth Negga's Lady Macbeth.

I loved seeing it on a screen. Coen shot it beautifully in a pre-wide screen ratio. For an hour and a half I felt as though I was back at the Regency on 67th and Broadway, where many of the films I had first discovered on television took on whole new lives for me. I hope those who first see "The Tragedy of Macbeth" on Apple TV see it as it is meant to be seen somewhere down the line.

We are going to see it tomorrow at local theatre. I was simply attempting to clarify that it is going to be on TV. Saw McDormand in the part at Berkeley Rep a while back and look forward to seeing if there are any differences in her interpretation. I tend to think there may be but, of course, I am not sure I will remember the nuances of her stage performance well enough to actually compare and contrast. Anyway, the Scottish play is always on our list of things to see. Even enjoyed the production with Patrick Stewart directed by Goold. WE did not see it at BAM or the Lyceum but on the PBS broadcast.

I’m waiting to see it on Apple TV. I have too many immuno-comprmised family memes (including granddaughter Phoebe, who is sadly no longer in remission—her juvenile arthritis is now showing up in a related condition in her beautiful eyes, uveitis) to risk movie theatres.

Current reports are saying Omicron may peak by the middle of the month, but hospitals may be maxxed out by then. Hoping things improve by spring; I really want to see the tour of THE BAND’S VISIT,which I likely will never ever have the chance to see again.

This is why I said I hope people see it on a screen "somewhere down the line." This is a frightening era, and I am so sorry about Phoebe's condition. I hope treatment will turn things around.

January, in New York. Obviously, it will be much later in certain parts of the country, and will likely arrive in some of those places in a horrific wake.

Of course. We all have to deal with the cards dealt. So sorry to hear about your grand daughter. Fingers crossed that things start looking up for everyone.
