I agree. Right now it’s pretty weak (though it has entertaining moments). New York critics wouldn’t give this a pass on Broadway.
I like the overall impulse to write a feminist view of fairy tales. But did the feminism have to be so on-the-nose and didactic? The fairy godmother is literally Betty Friedan and gives the princesses copies of “The Feminine Mystique.” Come on.
