It will take six to eight weeks to raise the Palace Theatre 30 feet, the lift only moves about a quarter inch an hour. The theater will then undergo a $50 million renovation. Looking forward to seeing it when it is completed.

I passed by a few time since October and thought it was happening. The noise coming from the site sounds like hydraulics. What have they been doing during the pandemic? I did read that they have gutted the hotel. Did they gut the dressing rooms and costume areas below the stage and seating area. I'm very curious how they are going to be able to lift the auditorium. Is it done at the same time as the stage? What happens to the water towers? Are their design plans available?

They’re lifting the entire building that houses the theater, including dressing rooms, under stage, etc.

They are lifting the entire exterior shell of the building, but of the interior only the auditorium is along for the ride. There has been a huge hole in the ground where the stage used to be for over a year now. The stage house, orchestra pit, trap room under the stage, etc. will be new.

I live in the area so I've walked by often. A large portion of the wall separating the stage area and the street was taken out early on to allow room for all the machinery to be brought in. You can (or could, I haven't been by in a few days) easily peek and watch the progress.

Thank you. Next time in going to see a show, I'll stop by and take a closer look. Only the auditorium has landmark statue. So the new palace will have a new grid, wings and dressing rooms.

I remember seeing Pillow Talk when it was a movie theatre. When it became a Broadway theatre Sweet Charity with Gwen Verdon was the show that reopened the theatre. I've seen Judy Garland and Liza a number of times. What memories!

I thought it had been raised already. It was supposed to reopen in 2022. Some of the delay is probably covid shut down construction for awhile.
