The National Society of Film Critics is one of the big critics' groups, and they gave out their awards a few days ago. They heavily went for foreign-language films this year (Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, and 3 of the four acting awards) and didn't give any 1st place awards to any musicals. But Ariana DeBose came in 2nd for Supporting Actress and Mike Faist tied for 3rd for Supporting Actor.
Ariana DeBose is very likely to get an Oscar nomination, and she could well win. Mike Faist has an uphill battle to get a nomination, but it's a possibility. Four of the five slots seem to be spoken for in his category, but the fifth slot could go to a bunch of different people, including him. |
