No doubt the Hollywood Foreign Press wanted to prove its continued revelance to the movie awards season.
At the same time, it sounded like many publicists boycotted the Globes, so I imagine the HFPA's access to screenings and stars was limited.
That said, the Globes reportedly added 21 new members to beef up the diversity of their membership (and revamped its ethics rules).
And for what it's worth, a number of the Globe winners were diverse: Will Smith, Ariana DeBose, Rachel Zegler, MJ Rodriguez, O Yeong-su ...
I'm glad the Globes didn't skip this year. There was a bumper crop of movie musicals, and I'm happy a number of them were recognized. |
