| Where’d you see that running time? I don’t see anything on the Audible site that gives a run time, just a kind of vague write-up that makes it sound like O’Hara is going to do a radically revised directorial vision that either condenses the underlying play to a new form of expression or rewrites it completely. My sense of O’Hara is the playwright in him is going to come out, and we’re going to see a Tyrone family living at the intersection of race and identity as the 2020s go up in fire. Which could be interesting. |

| Theatre Mania site lists the play as a 100 minute production. Maybe they got it wrong. | |

| Since it's being produced by Audible I have to wonder if it will have any visual interest. It's a loss leader for a condensed radio production. The director does make me hope for something more, though. | |

| The shortest version of this play was the production starring Jack Lemmon. It clocked in at about 2.5 hours. I believe it was not cut! J |

| I saw that 1986 revival and hated how Jonathan Miller directed his cast to race through their lines and talk over one another. It totally robbed O'Neill's dialogue of its poetry. To me, ''Long Day's Journey'' is a roundrobin of regrets and recrimations. And part of the play's power is that the family members can't help but say things that hurt and harm one another, again and again. I can believe in judicious edits, but expediency shouldln't be the point. O'Neill didn't call it ''LONG Day's Journey'' for nothing. |

| The London production with Laurie Metcalf and David Suchet, from 2012, came in at around 2:45 with no cuts. That said, this interpretation will clearly be heavily cut, as evidenced by the fact they've excised an entire character (Cathleen, the housemaid). | |

| I also saw the excellent 2012 London production. However, I seem to recall they cut the scene where James and Edmund receipt passages from Shakespeare, which reduced the running time to under 3 hours. | |
