| The first time I heard "We Don't Talk About Bruno" I considered it a strong Oscar contender and was astounded that the Disney people missed the boat by not submitting it for Oscar contention. It's a shame because I think it would have given Lin-Manuel Miranda his well deserved EGOT (actually PEGOT in his case since he has a Pulitzer.) | |

| The last time I heard, movies are allowed to submit only 2 songs for Oscar consideration, so I imagine Miranda was consulted about this. I'm guessing he only chose one (the pretty and plaintive ''Dos Oruguitas''), instead of two to avoid having two ''Encanto'' songs split votes. Plus, who could've predicted just how popular ''We Don't Talk About Bruno'' would be, let alone take the No. 1 spot in the Billboard 200? |

| YOu are likely correct that he was consulted. I thought of that after I submitted my previous comment. I wonder if he was additionally influenced by Latin Pride since "Dos Oruguitas" is performed entirely in Spanish. ¡Bien por él! I expect "No Time to Die" likely has a lock on the Oscar anyhow but I think "We Don't Talk About Bruno" could have given it a run for the gold. | |

| Recent James Bond songs have won at the Oscars (like ''Skyfall'' and ''Writing's on the Wall'), so ''No Time to Die'' probably has the edge. But for the record, a Spanish-language song has won the Oscar: Jorge Drexler's ''Al otro lado del rio'' from ''The Motorcycle Diaries'' (2004). It beat out ''Learn to Be Lonely,'' Andrew Lloyd Webber and Charles Hart's new song for ''The Phantom of the Opera'' (which I preferred). |
