I loved Hadestown too. Also love Anais Mitchell and her 2021 Bonny Light Horseman CD. She’s just so comfortingly hypnotic.

You might want to listen to the excellent 2010 concept album.

It is well put together with enough dialog to string the songs together.

I actually deleted the few tracks that were only dialogue. I did the same with the Follies revival from a few years ago.
I really prefer to be able to just listen to the music. I don’t listen to the albums to recreate a show but rather enjoy the music. The recreation of the show is already there in my mind.

When I listen to an album, it is reliving the show for me. That is why I dislike radio since it just jumps to popular songs of shows and not the feeling of the show.

Understand, I almost always listen to an album beginning to end, in order. Not one song here or there.

The show was one of the most haunting and exciting musicals I have seen in many years. It was, IIRC, the last musical I saw before Covid shut things down--it has set a high bar in terms of more recent shows engaging me sufficiently to make the trip back to Broadway. I've only listened to the OBC a few times, but it does evoke the production very well, IMO.
