I loved ''Schmigadoon!'' and saw a number of pretty good notices. Its Rotten Tomatoes rating is 88%; audience score is 84%. The American Film Institute picked it as a TV Program of the Year, and Broadcast Film Critics nominated Kristin Chenoweth. That said, ''Schmigadoon!'' only ran for 6 episodes, and in a landscape of so many streamers and shows, it's hard to stand out. And let's face it: Musicals have niche appeal, on the little screen and the big screen, as the latest (and even acclaimed) ones have shown. So far, Amazon hasn't renewed ''Schmigadoon!'', so I doubt it'll happen, but I'm thrilled we even got the joy of one wonderful season! |
