I can't say this is an accurate aggregate of all the reviews, but anecdotally it seemed to me most of my musical theatre cohort felt that it started strong and kind of flatlined. I definitely lost interest around the fourth episode. (I wish Aaron Tveit hadn't been sidelined midway through; I was really enjoying him.)
But I agree that it's great that it got green lit at all and it provided many laughs and even a tear.
