Her public responses are now so manufactured and mechanical it's hard to be interested in her. She doesn't come across as genuine.

It was interesting when Pauley asked what she was thinking backstage during Liza With A Z. She could have said, "I was working, concentrating. It's show business." Everyone knows performers turn it on when the curtain goes up. You can see Sally Bowles (Minnelli) do it in the movie Cabaret.

Instead she said something that sounded like insecurity or more likely a Judy-like ploy for sympathy.

I'm surprised she doesn't do more interviews so bitchy people can judge her health and appearance!
Some of the comments here are so insensitive you don't deserve to be entertained by legends.

If this is a dig at me, please believe that I meant no offense. I had not seen her in years and wondered about her health. My question was asked more out of concern than judgement.

But I didn't mention her health or appearance. You have raised those subjects.

I agree that often "her public responses are now so manufactured and mechanical." In this case, there really were no questions for her to answer. Other than the one you mention, the questions were so basic and they were so few of them. It was nice to see her, but this felt like a missed opportunity.

It's really shocking and sad to see Liza Minnelli in such frail and fragile condition, but then it's good that she is still able to give an interview and have a project like the Gershwin recording to work on. I loved her noteworthy stage, film, and TV performances from the time I was a teen. Of course, I idolized her mother and father.

I was fortunate enough to see her on stage in Liza's at the Palace in Dec., 2008. She was in fine voice, vibrant, sparkling, just quintessential Liza. I enjoyed her knockout featured star turn in the Sex and the City 2 2010 film.

Hang in there, Miz Minnelli!

I was fortunate to see her at Radio City. Must have been the very early 90s, as she opened the second act with Losing My Mind from her Results album produced by The Pet Shop Boys. The album was relatively new at the time.

She was at the height of her powers. Not only her voice, but the way she moved on stage was incredible.

If you're just looking at trembling, it's not always Parkinson's. I don't think it's even usually Parkinson's.

I don't think she looks especially frail. She's a small woman, and hell, she's 75; she had hip replacement surgery twice and other medical issues. But she still looks like the Minnelli we knew decades ago. The style is the same, and from her rapport with Feinstein, you feel that she's grounded. She knows who she is. Those who wanted more in depth questions: watch the TCM interview with the great host, Robert Osborne. Even guarded, she covered nooks and crannies in her life rather fully. Here, within clearly established perimeters, she offered a prism on her talent, how she viewed the blend of opportunity, drive, and genetic predisposition. She didn't elaborate, but her answers are honest.

I don't see that at all.

If someone wants to criticize Pauley for not digging deep, okay, but it seemed clear it wasn't that kind of interview.

Just watched. She just makes me weep with joy and adoration. Was thrilled to hear about Feinstein’s musical tribute this year to her mom on the centennial of her birth. All the more reason to honor Liza this year at the Kennedy Center. You can submit her name on the KC website.
