| I loved the Mad Magazine parodies of the Sound of Music--they're probably my favorite of their parodies--and still remember some of the lyrics. EG, the end of the title song: I'm not singing now, I am prerecorded I'm just mouthing words I have sung before So how does it feel to be singing nothing? It's an awful bore My Favorite Things was rewritten to be about the King Family when the Von Trapps tried competing with them: "Five women pregnant and each foetus sings/These are a few of the family of Kings" I wish I could read them again! |

| Thanks for the lyric. I remember part of the "Climb Every Mountain" lyric about the "road show" release of the movie: Play just one theater in every town. Only sell reserved seats, turn most people down. The parody title of "Edelweiss" was "Abel Weiss," about either Andrews' or Plummer's agent, but I don't remember any of the lyrics. If anyone remembers (or has the magazine), I'd love to see some of the other song titles and lyrics. |

| I have always remembered the parody of "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?," for reasons unbeknownst to me, except the fact that I find it very funny. Here goes, as best I remember: How do you solve a problem like religion? How do you handle nuns and not offend? Just simply have them doing things they wouldn't. Don't follow the norm Or stay true to form. Pretend! Show Sister Mary how to ride a scooter, And Sister Felicia how to fly a kite. The movies can make folks feel That all these events are real, And being a nun is fun from morn till night. People will eat up films about religion, Just keep them corny, saccharine, and trite. |
