| Attended Wed mat and have to mention how the staff was on the ball. They were checking the audience to make sure that there masks were above the nose and no phones were on. Even during the show they would quickly do a check. Before the show started they asked the same woman 6 times pull up her mask. The manager asked the woman to leave her seat. 15 min later she returned. They kept checking her. Kudos to the ushers!!!! | |

| PurpleMoney seemed to have a different experience: The only distraction was a gentleman playing video games next to me on his phone and when his phone rang during the performance. Unfortunately the ringtone was not a song in the show itself and was a minor distraction. |

| I noted the same discipline at (among others) Trouble in Mind, Mockingbird, and Girl/North Country. At Morning's at Seven, the staff rechecked everyone re-entering from the street at intermission. Yesterday, a man eating peanuts in the Belasco with a pulled down mask was politely asked to cease. Instantly. As we sing the praises of covers/swings, let's add house staff. What a job they've had the last 5 months. Policing 900-1500 8 times a week -- when your job is simply to seat people -- is quite a task in today's tense protocol climate. The vaccination status access makes it somewhat easier; I've heard horror stories about sporting events. But it cannot be an easy job. When the history of this season is written, let's reserve a chapter for ushers and house management. | |

| When the history of this season is written, let's reserve a chapter for ushers and house management. Generally, yes. But I do have to give very poor marks to an usher recently for the Fiddler On The Roof tour in Boston. A man with a rather loud high-pitched nasal voice, who was yelling at several different people to turn their phones off while the opening violin solo was playing. I understand that he's surely told to target people who still have phones on at the start of the show, but his manner was, IMO, much ruder than I feel it needed to be, and he was absolutely disrupting the show more than the cellphones were. (Both patrons, in different rows, also tried to quietly tell him that they were already in the middle of turning their phones off.) I came very close to yelling back at him for ruining the top of the show - but I held my tongue, and like Yente, suffered in silence. I refused to make things any worse, certainly. (The production was very good, btw.) But yes - most house staff and ushers I've encountered do their job responsibly and efficiently, and I've appreciated so many ushers who seem to truly be friendly and happy to be part of the experience. And they are always underappreciated. So yes, let's lift the good ones up. |

| my experience with the ushers at the Colonial was great but the audience was allowed to eat at their seats. Not comfortable having someone sitting next to me (less than 2 feet) munching on popcorn (mask down, of course) in the middle of a pandemic...let alone during Sabbath Prayer! Sorry...not returning to Boston's Colonial until eating in seats isn't allowed. | |

| Sorry...not returning to Boston's Colonial until eating in seats isn't allowed. I don't know if you realize it or not, but for a very tense time back in 2015-2016, there were plans to turn the building into dining hall space. Count your blessings and be glad that the food there now is being eaten merely by an audience during a show. I'll take it. |

| I still won't sit next to someone who is maskless eating...don't care where it is. I don't stand next to someone in a store who is maskless. The variant is too contagious. Chicago theaters have eliminated food and drink and wish Boston theaters would do the same while we are still in the surge (although reportedly getting better). ART has updated their policies besides no food and drink and vaccine card with booster....you must double mask or wear a higher quality mask like an N95 or KN95. |

| Understood, with your focus on masks, not just the eating. Thanks. :-) | |

| "A man with a rather loud high-pitched nasal voice, who was yelling at several different people to turn their phones off while the opening violin solo was playing." It’s his job, and a rather unpleasant one, to make sure no one is photographing or recording the show! I don’t see how his voice is an issue here. You should be angry at the patrons who with ample time available waited till moments into the performance to turn off their phones. Where’s Patti when you need her? |

| Agreed; ushers with rather loud, high-pitched nasal voices should definitely seek other employment. Happy to report I haven't encountered any this challenging fall-winter on Broadway. I salute the rest. | |

| His voice was important to mention because it was very loud and piercing. That may come in handy when he's trying to explain to people where their seats are amid the audience noise before the show, but he absolutely did not need to be that loud during the music. I've never experienced that before, even yes, when other ushers have had to do similar things as a show starts. It may be one thing to do that at the top of a loud overture - but doing that during the violin solo opening to Fiddler is just inexcusable, and if that's how the ushers were instructed to handle things, that's equally inexcusable. I might be angry at the patrons who waited to turn their phones off, but two wrongs don't make a right, and I choose to blame the usher. Patti is on Broadway where she is needed. Thank you. :-) |
