The tv critic Daniel Fienberg, who wrote the article, is also a theater lover, and often makes jokes about how certain tv characters played by musical theater performers should break into song (e.g., Saul in Homeland played by Mandy Patinkin).

Whenever I see 2 or more musical theatre performers on a TV show, I always say "ok, now sing" at my TV, even when they're in a heated dramatic scene.
