Girl From the North Country ...Such beauty
Posted by: Kerick 02:05 pm EST 01/21/22

I have now been to The Girl From the North Country twice and only regret that I can't make it there for a third time. It brought tears to my eyes...not so much the plot, the arc of each character or individual songs as the beautiful totality of the entire production.... The poetic non-realistic approach, the direction and choreography, the courage to take such a creative direction, individual performers, the joyous energy of the entire company.... All of it wonderful as a whole.

Sad to see it go. Probably the best I have seen in several years. Thank you all involved.

I saw it in the fall of 2018 at the Public and appreciated it. I saw it again in November at the Belasco and absolutely fell in love with it. A truly beautiful piece of theatre! I do hope it finds it's way back to Broadway in the spring.

Saw it at the Public and twice on Broadway... and I am not a Bob Dylan fan! It's those voices and emotions that got me!

Felt the same way and saw it twice.

I'm not sure why it affects me so deeply every time I see it, but this past Wed. matinee, I was a puddle of tears. Perfection

count me among the mysterious puddle of tears

I went into it knowing very little, expecting nothing. I'm glad I hadn't read this thread with people confessing to the tears, then I might have been expecting and waiting to be impressed by its emotional impact on me -- or disappointed when it didn't come.

I loved it bit by bit. The voices, the arrangements, the world of it... but I never quite knew what it was being or coming together to be. Whatever it was, it really worked on me. I was taken with the whole thing, and ended up sobbing by the last scene, not entirely sure why.

It reveals itself slowly. It's one of those shows you only really see looking back at it. For these impatient times, maybe not a fit.

It was the last show I saw before shutdown, the night before. I remember being a bit at sea before I realised what it was doing, and why, and how.

I was at the Wednesday matinee, too. My 2nd time. I was so shaken (Winningham had been out the first time), I came home and bought a ticket to the closing. It was impulsive, but I don't regret it. I don't believe the show will return, and the quick view of all the seats available for this Sunday perhaps explains why.

The piece's power over me remains mysterious.

I saw it at the Public over two years ago (or is it over three years ago now? I don't remember) and just bought tickets to the closing performance at the Belasco. A fondness for the cast recording and the many posts in its favor on All That Chat encouraged my return. I, too, doubt that it will be back, but I hope it finds a new home in the future.
