I've always known Working as a lesser known but fairly loved and well regarded score, very beloved by some.
I guess it depends on what you mean by "that era" in terms of if it stands out. I have limited exposure, I've only listened through to it maybe once and I've never seen it.
But the 70s is an incredible era for scores... while it's the first decade without the volume of shows and amount of writers on Broadway as the 50s and 60s ... it's still pretty great, so I feel like either every good score stands out in the 70s because of the comparatively lower volume of good scores, or it's very hard to stand out because the memorable ones are all remembered... but that being said, sure, for me it is a stand out, but not among the stand-outs (aka Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Chorus Line, Sweeney Todd, Pacific Overtures, Pippin, Mack & Mabel The Wiz, Rothschilds, Chicago, Runaways, Grease maybe, 20th Century I suppose, and Annie though i don't love the show itself... and I've left out several that other people adore more than I do.). |
