It's a show I've loved ever since first seeing it, and I'm fortunate to say that, as a white pianist, I've been invited in as a sub for two productions in the past without complaints (it's a fantastic score to play, but I'm very aware that as written, the pianist really should be black, so I consider my opportunities with the show an unexpected gift). I'll be interested to see what the changes are.
As long as they don't touch even a hair of that stunning and moving arrangement of "Black And Blue," which is one of my favorite Broadway vocal arrangements EVER. To do anything to that chart would be a huge mistake. |
