The point is that Molière is the only 17th C. French playwright most people could name, and so the best guess. Voltaire lived mostly in the 18th C. and is not remembered much for his plays (though I don't know whether his work is performed in France). It's not a terrible response, but Racine would be a better wrong guess. And then there's Corneille...
Amy also missed the Ethel Merman-Sarah Jessica Parker clue that got comment here recently.
I had trouble remembering Ben Platt's name myself. Maybe if it was a Final Jeopardy I would have gotten it...;)
