Years ago I was in the TKTS line, minding my own business. I had decided to see a certain show and wasn't interested in any others. I was aware that Perfect Crime was a very bad play and that its lead performer was an actress named Catherine Russell, but I had no idea what she looked like.

Suddenly this older lady, probably mid-50's, sticks a flyer in my face for Perfect Crime and begins singing the show's praises. I assumed she was a TKTS employee and was taken aback that she would be recommending such a bad play. I naively responded by saying something like "Isn't that a really terrible show that has somehow been running for years? Why would you be pushing tickets for something that is so awful?"

She immediately flew into a rage and spewed a litany of obscenities at me. Every other word was "fuck" or fucking". I just stood there dumbstruck. Then after all the curse words came the tears. Now I was trying to take the food out of her mouth and preventing her from earning an honest living. Isn't that a line from Rent? What a performance! That, of course, was my introduction to Catherine Russell!

Years later, though, I did get my revenge.
