In the early 1970s, I made $1.75 to $1.95 an hour. I saw the musical Irene with Debbie Reynolds first row center for $9 on a Labor Day matinee. I believe that tix in the last rows upstairs were under $5.
IIRC, I saw Moon for the Misbegotten for $4.25 last row balcony and $9 first row.
The $9 seats were so expensive that I only bought them on very special occasions.
At the Mercer Arts Off-Broadway, student tix were $3.50. I saw an amazing production of Cuckoo's Nest there 3 times.
So yes, there was a time when tix were doable on minimum wage. And it was lovely! |
