| Did not see Diana. I have seen MM. The performances of both Jackman and Foster are truly presentational, especially Jackman. His entire performance is a laser beam to the audience. This saved The Boy From Oz. It does not work here. Just one example: the entirety of You've Got Trouble is directed, totally, to the audience rather than the folk of River City. Perhaps this has changed. Perhaps not. Perhaps this has something to do with this embarrassing news release. I don't know. It is difficult, close to impossible, for a director to redirect a major star performance no matter how long one delays critical review. Nichols could do it. Few others. With the alleged advance, I am as mystified as others here as to implied fear of critical response. |
