Keikekaze, I, too, remember the days of genuine overnight reviewing. Back in the early '80s, I was a theater and movie critic for the San Francisco Examiner, and overnight reviews were reserved for major theater openings, like A.C.T.'s revival of ''Three Sisters'' or the national tour of ''Barnum.''
Fortunately, the Geary and the Golden Gate theaters were only several blocks away from the Examiner's office. As soon as the curtain fell, I'd dash from the show to my desk at work. I had about an hour to file my review. (Needless to say, this was pre-Internet.) And actually having an hour to write was a luxury, compared to what sportswriters got. And nowadays, they're expected to file online only minutes after the game is over. |
