Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging is doing some phenomenal work restoring older films using modern technology.
Even more impressive is their work with older films made in three-strip Technicolor. For example, musical fans are delighted with their Blu-ray of the 1951 SHOW BOAT that they issued last year. WBMPI scanned the original three separate Technicolor negatives and recombined the images digitally with pinpoint accuracy. The resulting images look like they were filmed yesterday. The 1937 Janet Gaynor A STAR IS BORN has undergone the same process and the resulting Blu-ray comes out in March. |
