| I agree with you. I thought this was as strong a production of Company as i have ever seen with every actor totally immersed in their character and every musical number delivered to near perfection. I include Being Alive and other Lenk numbers in that. I found no problem with her voice. If she was not as strong as some of the male actors who have played the role she made up for it with interpretation. As for the Side By Side number, I guess I do prefer the original staging of that number but this was a very valid reimagining of it and works well. I was skeptical like you of the gender shift and thought it would change the show. It does some but in no way weakens or diminishes it. The other gender change from Amy to Jaime actually strengthens the show and adds a dimension to that scene that plays like a whole new drama within the play and it is expertly delivered but is a showstopper this time on message not just technique. Bravo to all conceerned with this number. This is one show I am planning to go back and see again. |
